Chasing friends across the world

Filed under: General by Joel @ 2:24 am, 9 September 2006.

There are two pieces of Australian media I’m keeping up with while away. One is Column 8. The other is those little snippets of The Chaser’s War on Everything posted weekly on the ABC web site.

I don’t generally watch the Chaser on TV at home, but I was convinced a couple of months ago (by Mike, Lior & Keren mostly) to finally take a look at what everyone was laughing about. I then used valuable study time before exams to catch up on all the weeks of Aussie satire I had missed before heading off. Since then, I’ve a few times used it to show American’s Australian humour.

And I’ve been checking in for new skits on a weekly basis. This week, I was taking a look at the September 1 (what happened to the date order?) clips, excited for yet another classic Ad Road Test. They finish trying to use Godfreys vacuum cleaners to suck up bowling balls spinning down alleys, show the Chaser guys on their lounge, and cut to an audience shot for a little applause. Suddenly, there, at 1:10m I see a familiar face. At the end of the recording, I go back and check it out more clearly. Yes, it was Lior, confirmed by having Mike sitting next to her (and made all the more plausible because this was the Chaser and they’d long been talking about going to see one staged).

So mazel tov M&L on finally getting to be in a Chaser audience. And it’s nice to see you’re looking healthy and happy =) Keep in touch!

PS: I will sometime update you on what’s been happening in Montreal. It’s a work in progress.

  1. No doubt if the kind folok at Column 8 were to read this post, Apostrophe Man would have something to say! American’s? Oops! :-p

  2. Hmmm how true… Yeah, well… I was rushing a little and didn’t know how to phrase that sentence. So now it’s just a dilemma of whether to fix the error so as not to tarnish my reputation…
